Caramelized Onions Burger

Juicy and delicious burger that will satisfy your hamburger cravings this grilling season!


4-6 AlWadi’s Jumbo Burger patties 

Fresh mozzarella cheese (or sliced cheese)

1-3 white onions

Arugula leaves 

1 tablespoon olive oil

3 tablespoons butter

2 onions, thinly sliced

1/2 teaspoon ground thyme

1 bay leaf

1/2 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon light brown sugar

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

salt and pepper


  1. On medium heat, heat the butter and olive oil on a large skillet.
  2. Add the onions, salt, pepper, thyme and bay leaf. Sauté on medium heat for around 20 minutes or until onions are caramelized. Stir occasionally and taste as you go
  3. Add broth, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar. Stir with a spoon until sugar dissolves.
  4. Lower the heat to very low, keep warm until ready to serve.
  5. Grill the burger patties on the grill or on a medium-high heat for 5 minutes then flip and grill for another 5 minutes. Add the cheese shortly before the patties are done grilling.
  6. Place the grilled patties on the bun, add your caramelized onions (be generous), and garnish with fresh arugula leaves.
